Mono

Cabin on the 9
Starting at:
$209 per night
Sleeps:
2
Bedrooms:
2

Why We Love It:

This Hockley Valley cabin takes top prize for the most charming all-season accommodation within the closest proximity to Toronto. A quick one-hour drive lands you on its front steps. Inside, you’ll find a woodstove, kitchenette, and an A-frame sleeping loft for two, accessible by ladder. Take heed: the bathroom is only suitable for #1s; other jobs, as well as showers, require a short stroll to the main house.

Bayfield

The Cabinscape: The Dashi Cabin
Starting at:
$189 per night
Sleeps:
4
Bedrooms:
1

Why We Love It:

If tiny off-grid cabins in the woods are the stuff of your getaway dreams, then Cabinscape is just the ticket. Each of the company’s five little lodges sleep between two and four people and are situated in secluded southern Ontario landscapes, close to trails, lakes and beaches. The doors are open year-round; winter guests will hike in using provided snowshoes and sleds.

Lincoln

Tiny Niagara
Starting at:
$98 per night
Sleeps:
2
Bedrooms:
1

Why We Love It:

Indulge your tiny house curiosity without applying to HGTV by booking a stay at this little Niagara countryside getaway. It has every amenity — queen bed for two, fridge, stove, shower, laundry and heating — cleverly arranged in a small footprint that still feels open and airy. Its doors are open from the end of March until Labour Day weekend.

Coldwater

The Woodhouse Muskoka
Starting at:
$375 per night
Sleeps:
8
Bedrooms:
2

Why We Love It:

This 17th-century log chalet for 10 is what cabin dreams are made of. It’s the ideal fall retreat for leaf-gazing and afternoon naps — think stone fireplaces, hammocks and outdoor firepits. In warmer weather, sunbathe on the floating dock before taking a cool dip, then explore the Severn River by canoe or kayak.

Port Perry

Cedar Treehouse
Starting at:
$399 per night
Sleeps:
2
Bedrooms:
1

Why We Love It:

If your idea of relaxation is not seeing another living soul, you and this treehouse might be a match made in heaven. Outside your doorstep are 300 acres of private forest for exploring, plus natural spring water ponds for swimming. Come alone or bring a kindred spirit to share the bed and cozy up by the fireplace with. The treehouse is available year-round.

Huntsville

The Aux Box Muskoka
Starting at:
$300 per night
Sleeps:
2
Bedrooms:
studio

Why We Love It:

Cue the Weeds theme song (Little boxes, little boxes 🎶) because the Aux Box sounds like a sound system but is ACTUALLY a very cute bunkie for two in Muskoka! Just a few minutes from Arrowhead Provincial Park, skate the winter forest trail, then cozy up fireside and sip some well-deserved hot toddies while your toes defrost. Go off-grid and disconnect with no running water, a composting toilet and minimal electricity (just for lights and charging electronics).

Skeleton Lake

The Westcliff Cabin
Starting at:
$155 per night
Sleeps:
2
Bedrooms:
1

Why We Love It:

Westworld. Westies. Westjet [commercials]. West is (usually) best, and the brand-new Westcliff Cabin—an eco-retreat tucked away in the all-season wonderland that is Muskoka Lakes—is no exception. This cabin for two overlooks an environmentally protected bog, facing (you guessed it) west, so you can watch candy-coloured sunsets from your outdoor fire. It’s off-grid but decked out with necessities like 40L of water, cooking equipment, and USB charging ports. It’s available all four seasons (and heated!), but in the summer months you can use the bbq and get your Survivor on in the outdoor shower.

Calvin

The Little Algonquin, Mattawa
Starting at:
$159 per night
Sleeps:
5
Bedrooms:
2

Why We Love It:

At around $100/night and sleeping room for 5, this adorable, affordable escape is one of our top recommendations if you’re willing to venture a bit beyond the three-hour radius. Your secluded hideout is right on the Buffalo Farm property (buffalos! German shepherds! Screened cabana! Bonfire pit!), and super close to the gorgeous Amable du Fond River, with a swimming platform and little sandy beach. And that, friends, is how you break up the hustle without breaking the bank.
